Experience:April began her journey in the medical laboratory profession by earning dual Bachelor's degrees in Biochemistry and a Biotechnology from Missouri Southern State University. She went on to complete her MLS at Mercy School of Medical Laboratory Science in Joplin, MO. After gaining extensive experience in all aspects of laboratory bench work as a traveling Medical Laboratory Professional, April worked as a Technical Supervisor at a critical access healthcare facility. In this role, she discovered her passion for quality control design. She was awarded the Sigma Metric Quality Manager Certification from Westgard QC in 2023. Currently, April is the Quality Assurance Consultant for Lab Connections and also serves as a Medical Laboratory Advisor, where she has worked with a variety of entities, from critical access healthcare to university health science programs. Her expertise includes quality control design, writing SOPs, conducting competencies and training and mentoring emerging leaders in the industry. She enjoys reading regulatory documents and advising laboratory leaders on navigating the maze of terminology and requirements. Additionally, she has experience working with labs facing certificate revocation and start-up laboratories seeking a Certificate of Compliance and Certificate of Accreditation. She has worked with anatomical pathology laboratories in writing SOPs and navigating compliance. Her passion for the medical laboratory profession extends to her volunteer efforts with the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, where she is actively engaged in advocacy as the current 2024 - 2025 Government Affairs Committee Chair for Missouri and works as a Labvocate Ambassador.
